Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet. Let it not be a death but completeness. Let love melt into memory and pain into songs. Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest. Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night. Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a moment, and say your last words in silence. I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way.
~Rabindranath Tagore
All Is Well
Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity
or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household world that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was,
there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.

You can shed tears that he is gone
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all he has left us with,
his memories, his smiles,
his laughter, his craziness.
Your heart can be empty because you can not see him
or you can be full of the love that he shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what he'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love, and let his memory live on.
I love these pictures so much because they show Doug doing what he loved to do best; being funny and smiling.
I hope you see that too!
Love,
Erin
This is a picture I took of Doug in spanish class one day a couple of years ago.

A light from our family is gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
We have to mourn the loss of one
We would have loved to keep
But God, who surely loved him best
Has brought him to Jesus feet.
Doug’s memories will not fade,
Our love will remain strong
For in God’s hands,
Our Doug is at Home.
Doug, remember the words to this little song I sang to you when you were a baby?
It's from the Mercer Myer book, "I'll Love You Forever.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you always....
As long as you're living you'll always be my baby...
You'll always be my son.
Hey...heres
a picture of me and Doug a few months ago and also a picture
of my tatoo. I hope all is well with you all. I miss you
and love you very much. I hope you know how much Doug taught
me and opened my eyes.
I will always
love him and his family. Keep in touch.
